Going Coastal - lookin' for funky little motels, beach bars, good food, interesting people...

Going coastal is our non-scheduled, non-interstate, unmapped exploration of what's left of the old coast. We're looking for the gems that didn't get torn down for condo's, the local dive bars, mom & pop motels, restaurants with butcher paper on the table and a bucket for shells. Nothing fancy or overpriced. We're starting from our home on Cape Fear about a mile from the intracoastal waterway (ICWW)and will meander south. Help us out with a few suggestions and tell us about your favorite places. We promise not to tell too many people!

  2. A friend made these suggestions:
Okefenokee Swamp: amazing. Totally primeval. Take a boat out, you're in the Jurassic Age.

Sanibel Island, Fl: Paradise. Get the fried grouper sandwich at the Lazy Flamingo.

Biloxi, Ms.: Home to Jefferson Davis and floating casinos. What could be better?

Going to Texas? Try Aransas, a funky beach town south of Corpus Christie.

I think the beach in Sanibel Island is super super gorgeous!

  4. Try the Golden Lion in Flagler Beach Florida. This town has two stoplights and is right on the ocen. You cant beat the food and the homespun folk guitar music featured daily. Ask any of the bartenders if they know Ross & Louise & you will be in the right spot. and dont tell anyone !!! unless you can trust em not to blab to the world
